1. Introduction
TechSmite (“we”, “our”, “us”) is a technology publication operated by Bluesmite. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how we collect and use data.
We do not collect personal information unless you choose to provide it (for example, by subscribing to our newsletter). We avoid invasive tracking and do not use cookies, fingerprinting, cross-site tracking, or third-party analytics providers.
TechSmite operates a self‑hosted instance of Plausible Analytics, meaning analytics data never leaves our own infrastructure and is not shared with Plausible or any third party.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Anonymous Website Analytics (Self‑Hosted Plausible)
We use a self‑hosted installation of Plausible Analytics, which is privacy‑focused and GDPR‑compliant.
Plausible does NOT collect:
- Cookies
- Personal data
- IP addresses
- Device fingerprints
Our analytics only measure anonymous aggregated data such as:
- Pages visited
- Referring sites
- Coarse region (not precise location)
- Browser type
- Time spent on pages
- Scroll depth
- Interactions with CTAs or outbound links
None of this information can identify any individual. All analytics remain entirely within our own server environment.
2.2 Newsletter Signups (Beehiiv)
If you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect:
- Your email address
- Optional name (if requested in the form)
This data is securely managed by Beehiiv, our email newsletter provider, and not stored on our servers. We do not export, sell, or share subscriber information.
You can unsubscribe at any time using the link included in each email.
2.3 Server Logs (Cloudflare)
The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages, which may process limited technical information such as:
- IP address (temporarily, for security only)
- Browser type
- Request path and metadata
Cloudflare retains this information briefly to provide security, caching, and DDoS protection. We do not store these logs ourselves.
2.4 Affiliate Links
Some articles include affiliate links. When you click one, the retailer may track that you arrived from TechSmite so we can receive a commission.
We do NOT receive:
- Personal information
- Purchase details
- Payment information
Retailers handle their own data processing according to their privacy policies.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the limited data we collect to:
- Understand article performance and reader interests
- Improve site design and content strategy
- Deliver newsletters (only when you opt in)
- Maintain security and prevent abuse
We do not:
- Sell data
- Share data with advertisers
- Build user profiles
- Track users across websites
- Collect or store any personal information other than an email address for newsletter delivery
4. Legal Basis (GDPR)
Our processing relies on:
✔ Legitimate interest
For anonymous analytics and website operation.
✔ Consent
For collecting an email address for newsletter subscriptions.
We do not process sensitive personal data.
5. Cookies
TechSmite uses no cookies.
Third‑party services (e.g., Beehiiv or affiliate partners) may set their own cookies when you interact with their content.
6. Data Sharing
We only use third-party services essential to running TechSmite:
